Consultant

Stanard & Associates, Inc. (S&A) is an industrial / organizational psychology and human resources consulting firm founded in 1976. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, S&A is a small firm with a very strong presence nationwide in the area of employment testing and selection, primarily for the public safety markets. The workplace is entrepreneurial; new associates and tenured employees alike have ample opportunity to positively impact the business. While the office environment is casual and informal, our current staff shares a commitment and dedication to serving clients and exceeding their expectations.

S&A has an immediate opening for a full-time Consultant. The Consulting Team focuses on the development, implementation and validation of promotional and entry-level written examinations (cognitive and non-cognitive), structured interviews, assessment centers and physical ability exams for public safety agencies (police departments, fire departments, correctional facilities and public safety answering points).

The immediate job opening involves working with S&A’s public safety clients to plan and direct custom project engagements. The ability to work autonomously and successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously is essential. The successful candidate will also be responsible for new business development. There is a strong expectation that consultants carry out projects and foster effective relationships so that client agencies return to the consultant for future engagements. In addition, consultants are expected to help grow the business by responding to sales inquiries, assisting in the preparation of fee estimates, responding to Requests for Proposals and attending sales meetings. For the candidate with the right fit, there is tremendous opportunity.

Job Requirements

  • M.A., M.S. or Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology.
  • Consulting experience strongly preferred, whether with internal or external clients. The successful candidate will be confident, mature and able to start working with clients immediately.
  • The ability to represent the firm in a professional manner in all client interactions, including face-to-face meetings, phone and email correspondence is of utmost importance.
  • In-depth experience with MS Office and SPSS through the use of syntax/code. Candidates may be asked to participate in a work simulation exercise to demonstrate proficiency in these areas.
  • A desire to contribute and work in an entrepreneurial environment. The successful candidate will be someone who has taken ownership of his/her career and proactively seeks opportunities to contribute and improve. Successful consultants are those seeking to do more than complete projects as assigned. Must be a self-starter who proactively seeks ways to add value to a growing business, and embraces this as a responsibility.
  • Strong command and competency in key areas relating to personnel selection and testing (e.g., job analysis, test development, validation strategies, professional standards/guidelines, legal issues). The successful candidate must be capable of analyzing, summarizing and explaining data (e.g., descriptive statistics, regressions, correlations, adverse impact analyses, analyses of test item properties, etc.).
  • Conscientious attention to detail in an environment where accuracy is of paramount importance. Work performed is in the context of high-stakes testing environments where the consequences of mistakes, errors or carelessness are great.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills. This is a predominantly client-facing role and the ability to foster effective relationships is essential. Consultants routinely facilitate meetings to develop test content. Consultants must also be prepared to participate in meetings and deftly handle situations where scrutiny, questions and concerns exist.
  • Strong written communication skills. The ability to document project steps, explain procedures, describe statistical analyses and results, etc. in technical reports is critical.
  • Ability to drive to on-site client meetings in the Chicago-land area suburbs approximately 50% of the time, and occasionally travel to clients throughout the United States. Must possess a valid driver’s license and one’s own reliable transportation.

S&A offers excellent healthcare and dental coverages, a 401k plan with an employer contribution, paid time off and a flexible work environment. Those demonstrating success in the position are eligible for profit sharing bonuses. S&A is an equal opportunity employer. Interested applicants should email a letter of interest along with a resume to hr@stanard.com. Please detail any salary expectations. Salary will be commensurate with experience and the ability to immediately contribute. No phone calls, please.
